What makes a fitted wardrobe in Ealing different?
Two features of Ealing's housing decide almost every wardrobe design here: chimney breast alcoves, and ceiling height. The alcoves either side of a chimney breast are almost never the same width as one another — a century of settlement, re-plastering and the odd removed fireplace sees to that — so a matching pair of off-the-shelf units will always leave a filler strip down one side.
The second is height. A Victorian or Edwardian bedroom ceiling sits at 2.7 metres or more. A standard wardrobe stops at about 2.1. That gap is close to a metre of dead air across the whole run, which is where the suitcases end up. Both problems have the same answer: measure the room as it was actually built, and make the carcass to those numbers.

Ealing's housing, and what it means for storage
The Victorian and Edwardian terraces around Northfields, West Ealing and Hanwell are the classic case — chimney breast in the middle of the wall, an alcove either side, high ceilings, and often a picture rail and cornice that a fitted run has to either stop below or be scribed around. We will tell you which of those two looks right in your room before anything is made.
The larger Edwardian villas nearer Ealing Broadway and Montpelier bring bay windows into the main bedroom, which interrupt the wall run. Toward Perivale and the Greenford border the stock changes again to 1930s semis, with the box room and hipped-roof loft that go with them. Do you cover all of Ealing?
Yes. Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Northfields, Hanwell, Acton, Perivale and Greenford itself, plus the surrounding boroughs. Our factory and showroom are in Greenford, about three miles from Ealing Broadway.
Can you build wardrobes into chimney breast alcoves?
Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do here. The two alcoves are measured separately because they are rarely identical, so each carcass is made to its own width and the door fronts still align across the chimney breast.
My ceilings are very high. Is that space wasted?
Only if you use a standard-height wardrobe. We run the doors to the ceiling and put the least-used storage in the top section, which is usually where seasonal clothes and luggage go. It is the single biggest gain available in a period bedroom.
Will a fitted wardrobe damage the cornice or picture rail?
No. There are two honest options: stop the run below the rail so the original mouldings stay unbroken, or scribe the units around them. Which one looks right depends on the room and we will say which we would do.
How long does it take from the first visit?
