Fitted wardrobes in Hayes
Our factory and showroom are in Greenford, five miles and about twenty minutes from Hayes. We measure your room, make the furniture to those measurements ourselves, and fit it with our own installers. Every photograph on this page is real UKB work.
What makes a fitted wardrobe in Hayes different?
Hayes has two quite different kinds of bedroom, and they need opposite answers. The interwar semis built around the old factory estates have the same box room, bay window and chimney breast as the rest of West London. The flats built around Hayes & Harlington since the Elizabeth line arrived have none of those — no chimney breast, no alcove, frequently one usable wall, and a ceiling at almost exactly 2.4 metres.
In a new flat the problem is not fitting around obstructions, it is getting a full-height run onto a single wall without shrinking the room. That normally means sliding or mirrored doors, because a hinged door needs half a metre of clear floor in front of it that a small room cannot spare. It also means the fixings matter: new-build walls are usually dot-and-dab plasterboard, and a wardrobe has to be anchored through to the blockwork behind rather than into the board.

Two kinds of Hayes bedroom
The older stock — Hayes End, Yeading, and the streets around the former factory sites — is interwar semi-detached and follows the Metroland pattern: a bay to the front, a square room to the back, a box room over the stairs. If that is your house, the wardrobe question is the same one they ask in Harrow, and the answer is a shallower carcass with doors that do not swing.
The newer stock around the station is a different exercise. Ceiling heights are consistent, walls are true, and rooms are smaller — which actually makes a floor-to-ceiling fitted run more valuable, not less, because there is no other way to get that storage in. Mirrored fronts do double duty in a compact room by putting light back into it.

Fitted wardrobes in Hayes — common questions
Do you cover all of Hayes and Hillingdon?
Yes — Hayes, Harlington, Yeading, Hayes End and West Drayton, and the wider Hillingdon borough including Uxbridge. Our factory and showroom are in Greenford, about five miles away.
Can you fit wardrobes in a new-build flat?
Yes, and it is worth saying how. New-build walls are usually plasterboard dot-and-dabbed onto blockwork, so the fixings have to reach the blockwork behind rather than gripping the board. Done properly a full-height run is completely secure; done into plasterboard alone it is not.
My bedroom is small. Will a fitted wardrobe make it feel smaller?
Usually the opposite, provided the doors slide rather than swing. A hinged door needs roughly half a metre of clear floor in front of it. Sliding or mirrored fronts remove that, and the mirror puts light back across the room.
There is no alcove or chimney breast in my room at all.
That is normal in the newer flats and it makes things simpler, not harder. The design becomes one clean full-height run along the best wall, with the internal layout doing the work instead of the shape of the room.
